My sustained investigation focused on how increasingly advanced technology has impacted everyday life. I aimed to portray both positive and negative aspects of technological development; how it has revolutionized communication and created new opportunities while at the same time causing people to become dependent on the advantages it provides. Through my investigation, I was able to explore a more fantastical portrayal of technological influence, as seen in Image 15. Here, the dragon represents the idea of planned obsolescence in technology, taking over one’s abstract & concrete thoughts.

A variety of mediums and techniques were used to highlight the influence of modern technology and explore how it has consumed society. This can be seen in Image 1, with the use of technology contributing to an isolated experience at school. The portrayal of an intense dependence on technology developed in Images 2-5, where it increases the ability to connect with others while potentially harming identity and awareness of your surroundings. This transformed into technology even becoming part of nature, seen in Images 8 and 12-14, where nature is forced to adapt in both positive and negative ways.
